Commodity overview

A commodity is the resource tracked by a meter — such as electricity, natural gas, water, or non-utility resources like telecom. EnergyCAP includes over 50 commodities, and each meter is assigned a commodity when it is created.

If none of the built-in commodities fit your needs, you can create a custom commodity. Custom commodities work just like built-in ones—they can be assigned to meters, tracked on bills, and included in reports.

Commodities and units

The rollup unit is the common use unit for reporting purposes. A rollup unit is required because vendors may use different units on bills.

Over 50 different commodities are available.

Vendor hierarchy views

• List by Vendor—Subtotals are grouped by each vendor.
• List by Commodity—Subtotals are grouped by each commodity.

Here is an example Commodity View with each commodity listed as the primary object in the tree and the vendors listed under the commodity.
