Using Watts Chat to explore your utility bill data

The Watts Chat is a large language model (LLM) designed to help you quickly explore your utility bill data and get answers in a conversational way. You can ask Watts AI about your sites, meters, billing details, and more, and it will generate reports or explanations based on the data available in your EnergyCAP environment.

Watts Chat is a separate module and is listed as the last module on the module bar.

Key capabilities include:

  • Access is tied to your user permissions—if your user has access, Watts will have access
  • Access to the EnergyCAP Help Center
  • Improved tables and charts
  • Hyperlinks when referencing objects in EnergyCAP
  • Access to all GET APIs
  • Export results to a CSV file
  • Copy responses — Copy any Watts Chat response to your clipboard with a single click.
  • Export charts and graphs — Download charts and graphs generated by Watts Chat as PNG files.
  • Prompt suggestions — Suggested prompts help you discover what Watts Chat can do and get to your data faster.

Floating window

Watts Chat can be changed to a floating, resizable window that stays visible as you navigate throughout the application. This makes it easier to ask questions in context while viewing a site, meter, account, or other record—without losing your place.

You can use the up arrow to view previous prompts.

Performance considerations

Watts Chat is designed to help with energy and utility questions, but it may have limitations with very complex prompts, incomplete context, or requests that require live data beyond what’s available. It can occasionally misunderstand nuanced instructions, miss edge cases, or produce answers that need verification. For important decisions, users should review results carefully and confirm them against source data or internal expertise.
